Is sleep training for everyone? +
If your family wakes up well rested happy and content then no! If you are sleep deprived, disgruntled and not coping then yes, I recommend sleep training is for your family. The first step is to acknowledge that changes need to be made and reach out for a solution. If you are struggling with your little one’s sleep and trying to figure out whether sleep training is the right solution for your family, give me a call and we can discuss your little one’s sleep issues.
When is the ideal time to tackle sleep training? +
The sleep training process is a tough gig, I kid you not! Although the journey can be challenging, the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages when your family are getting the sleep they need to function well and be at their best. I would generally encourage you embark on the sleep training process at a time where your child is thriving and you can be organised with minimal commitments over at least a 2 -3 week period. If you have an upcoming holiday, your partner is not on board at this stage or you are not geared up for a few restless nights, then this is not the ideal time to start. In saying that there may never be an “ideal” time to start but if you are feeling the effects of sleep deprivation, then reach out and make sleep your number one priority.

Generally it takes twenty-one days to change a behaviour or association however with a consistent approach, sleep can improve within as little as a few days. Again, consistency is key! Will there by setbacks? +
Yes there can be setbacks along the way! During the sleep training process we will be adjusting your little one’s routine as well as changing the way your little one is used to going to sleep/resettling to sleep after each sleep cycle and your child may regress. This is called an “response burst”. Often sleep will get worse before it gets better and this is completely normal behaviour.
What do I do if things do not go to plan? +
Snug Bug’s sleep plans are accompanied by a Contingency Plan specifically tailored to your child’s individual needs and family circumstances addressing issues which may arise during the sleep training process and how to navigate around these issues.
Does sleep training harm my baby? +
According to a study performed by Professor Harriet Hiscock and her colleagues from the Monash Children's Research Institute, scientific evidence concluded that “behavioural sleep techniques did not cause long-lasting harms or benefits to child, child-parent, or maternal outcomes”.
